Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady and Independence Day Celebrations

St. Dominic Church, Ashoknagar celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Assumption on 15th August 2023. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated as one congregation with the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Dominic Mendonca OP was the main celebrant and Priests from Dominican Priory, together with Parish Priest and Assistant Parish Priest were concelebrants. The liturgy was led by members of the ICYM.

After the Eucharistic celebration Independence Day was celebrated on the church grounds. President Guides- Ms. Wilona Dsouza & Ms. Freya Mendonca led the dignitaries to the dais for the flag hoisting ceremony.

The ICYM president Mr. Loyston Dsouza welcomed the dignitaries.

The chief guest Mr. Jeevendra of the Indian Armed Forces hoisted the flag and gave the Independence Day message. He was introduced to the gathering by Ms. Sweedal Lobo – Joint Secretary of ICYM.

Fr. Daniel Veigas addressed the citizens of India gathered for honouring the country.

The Church campus was beautifully decorated by the ICYM members with tricolor buntings giving a festive look.

The youth of ICYM and YCS danced to a patriotic song as well as sang a medley of patriotic songs where little children dressed as Freedom fighters came on stage adding beauty to their performance.

The Independence Day progamme was well appreciated and a lot of planning and effort has been put into this by the Animators of ICYM Mr. Nixon Crasta & Mrs. Ashwitha Frank and the ICYM team.

The programme was compered by Ms. Rhea Dsouza. The vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Priya – secretary of ICYM, Ashoknagar.
