Ashoknagar Milan 2018 in UAE
It is usually ‘that’ time of the year in Dubai, UAE when people irrespective of where they are from are looking for an excuse to have a fun time outdoors – and for those who have been to Dubai sometime around November until February you will exactly know what we mean. The sun is forgiving, the weather is cooler, and life is a lot easier than the rest of the year. And just like every year, our Ashoknagar Milan Committee, UAE spearheaded by Pramodh Pinto, started preparations for yet another exciting ‘Milan’ or get-together of all Ashoknagar parishioners based in the UAE.
The ‘Ashoknagar Milan 2018’ day was held on Friday, 16th November 2018 at Za’abeel Park in Dubai, UAE at 11AM. The sun was shining, and the weather was perfect, just the weather we were all hoping for, as the Milan starts to unfold. Our Committee Leader Pramodh and team member Darryl Pinto formally welcomed the parishioners gathered for the Ashoknagar Milan 2018, led by Praveen with prayer. The registration counters opened with parishioners increasing every passing hour and the Milan started to be livelier; Pramodh and Clarita were instrumental at the registration desk. Sunil, Praveen and Caroline then took charge of the fun part and games, which was handled in a very organized manner. They also made sure that parishioners not just participated in the games but also had a wonderful time. All parishioners were grouped into 2 big groups who locked horns with some of the most exciting games we had ever seen – such as passing the ball, dog and the bone etc. The event also hosted games for the children who had a wonderful time playing and watching their parents play as well. There was an amazing sense of humor, laughter and a family like atmosphere within the groups where no one held back on their emotions and enjoyed every bit of the fun that was organized for the day – so kudos to Sunil, Praveen and Caroline for that.
At mid-day a very delectable Mangalorean style lunch buffet was organized by the Milan committee. The lunch buffet had a great spread of classic Mangalorean dishes which left the parishioners licking their fingers. After the lavish lunch, the organizers hosted some less action-packed games, which were a great way to relax and wind down – such as; Marriage compatibility game, breaking the pot with blindfolds etc. No Ashoknagar Milan is complete without having the Christmas Santa Claus sing and dance. As usual we flew in the Santa Claus from Europe who danced his way into the Ashoknagar Milan with lots of goodies and gifts for children and adults alike. The air was filled with Christmas carols sung by the parishioners with song and dance. The atmosphere was ‘Christmasy’ and just the fitting end to an eventful day.
We also had some of Ashoknagar Parish’s benefactors who were present to be part of this day, to name a few, we had renowned businessmen such as Mr. Ivan Fernandes and Mr. Donald D’Lima whose presence graced our Ashoknagar Milan 2018. The final ‘thank you’ message was delivered by Sunil with a message that will linger with us until we meet again next year. The message also aimed at encouraging more participation from parishioners who are based in the UAE but may not be fully aware of our annual Milan – and for this you could contact either one of us at the Ashoknagar Committee UAE (contact numbers given below), or if you have any of your family members who are based in the UAE and don’t have access to this information, we encourage you to kindly provide our contact details.
