Grandparents Day Celebration - 26th July 2026

St Dominic Church YCS celebrated “Grandparents Day,” on 26th July 2026 at Silver Jubilee Hall, St. Dominic Church, Ashoknagar. 22 YCS members actively participated in organising and conducting the event along with the Animators Mrs Sujatha Mendonca and Fr Vijay Dsouza. The celebration commenced with a solemn Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m., during which the liturgy and choir were led by the YCS members. Following the Holy Mass, the cultural programme began at 9:30 a.m. The programme began with a prayer song, followed by the escorting of the dignitaries by Vice President of YCS unit Shaine Crasta. The dignitaries included the Parish Priest, Assistant Parish Priest, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Secretary, Co-Ordinator of 21 Commissions, ECD President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Youth Representative. A warm welcome speech was delivered by Chris Leon Pinto, President of ECD. The highlight of the event was the cake-cutting ceremony by the oldest grandparent, Mrs. Lucy Monteiro, aged 92 years. This was followed by an inspiring address by Mr. Isaac Furtado, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council. Shaine Crasta shared heartfelt thoughts on the importance of grandparents. The first game session was conducted by Sports Secretary Ken creating a joyful atmosphere. Avita Pinto then shared her touching experience about her grandparents. The programme continued with a lively dance performance by the YCS members, followed by a speech from grandparent Mrs. Deborah Locker. The YCS members then presented a meaningful skit and a wishing song dedicated to all grandparents. The gathering was blessed with an inspiring message by the Parish Priest, Fr Daniel Veigas OP who appreciated the efforts of the YCS members and highlighted the valuable role of grandparents in families and society. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the games. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ashton Joshua, Secretary of the YCS Unit, Ashoknagar.

The final segment of the event was the prize distribution for the Environment Day competitions conducted by the YCS Unit for the catechism students. The Grandparents Day celebration concluded with YCS anthem and YCS claps.
