Holy Pilgrimage - Vailankanni, Kodikal ‘B’Ward

On Sunday, March 31st 2019 was a memorable day for the members of the Kodikal ‘B’ Vailankanni ward because their ward Gurkar Mr.Martin Lasrado along with the representatives organized a pilgrimage to Udyavar, Perampalli and Kalmadi churches.

52 members of the ward boarded the bus to Udyavar and the journey commenced with a prayer led by Mr. Benedict Veigas followed by a hymn.

On reaching St. Francis Xavier Church, all members prayed for sometime and went upstairs to view the beautiful glass paintings depicting biblical stories.

After having a delicious breakfast sponsored by Mr. Herbert and Benny the members proceeded to the church of Our Lady of Fatima, Perampalli. This church with its unique structure is designed in Gothic style in accordance with biblical architecture and the Belfry is like a replica of the leaning tower of Pisa which was worth seeing. They also enjoyed the beautiful view from the top of the belfry.

The next stop was the Ursuline Fransiscan sister’s convent and the old age home where they spent quality time with the inmates and also enjoyed time in their well maintained garden.

At noon the members moved on to Kalmadi to visit Stella Maris church. Fr. Praveen Monteiro O.P., our former assistant parish priest was waiting to greet the members and he later took them on a tour of the church which is built in a boat shaped structure which was amazing. The divine mercy rosary was prayed in the church and later lunch was served at 1 p.m. After a sumptuous meal, water melon was served sponsored by Elveera Dsouza.

It was time to have some fun and entertainment and games were conducted by Mrs. Benedicta Dsouza and a bible quiz by Mr. Benedict Veigas. After the prize distribution, Elveera proposed the vote of thanks.

In the evening around 4 pm the members went to Malpe beach where they had tea and snacks, walked on the “Sea-Walk” which was an enjoyable time walking on the pathway and seeing the fishing boats sailing . It was really a feast for the eyes.

After a fruitful and enjoyable day the members returned back at 5 pm thanking and praising God for the wonderful opportunity and safe return back home.
